Celebrating the life of

Joan Hunter Christensen

Passed away on December 05, 2023

Joan Hunter Christensen

Joan Hunter Christensen was born on August 3, 1935 in the village of Aspy, Cumbria, England to Mary Williamson Hunter and Sidney Hunter. She passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023.

Joan grew up walking the fells of England's Lake District and especially loved riding her bicycle with friends to Loweswater on Sunday afternoons.

As a young woman, she moved to Eleuthera, Bahamas where she met and married an American cattleman, Edward Christensen.  They raised two daughters, Anna Christensen Wasden and Jane Christensen Aderhold. After spending 20 years in the Bahamas, they moved to Williston, Florida, and then Matthews Georgia where they worked together raising championship Charolais cattle, running a dairy and growing row crops. Joan was well known all over the southeast as the owner of the House Of The Bride in Augusta, Georgia where she enthusiastically dressed brides for over 30 years.

She is survived by her children Anna Wasden (Wiley) and Jane Aderhold (Richard Danek), her grandchildren: Wiley Anderson Wasden IV (Kirstin), Edward Christensen Wasden (Landyn) and Harrison Hunter Wasden and her great grandson Wiley Anderson Wasden V. She is also survived by her brothers Donald Hunter (June) of Fort Langley, BC, Canada, and Michael Hunter (Lynn) of Cockermouth, Cumbria, England and her nieces Susie Johnson and Taryn Rhodes and nephew Dan Hunter as well as her friend and caregiver, Tanya Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 8 at St. John's Church, 1 West Macon St, Savannah.  Interment will follow at a later date at St. Michaels, Arlecdon, Cumbria, England.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Church (1 West Macon St., Savannah, GA 31401), St. Mary Magdalene (321 West 7th St., Louisville, GA 30434) or The Edel Caregiver Institute (P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416).
